program detail:

afternoon concert: 16 may 2026 2.30-6pm - $75

the music box project, Imaginary Radio Station

Stephen Adams, Jane Aubourg, Nikki Heywood, Elizabeth Jigalin, Naomi Johnson, Peter Leung and Joseph Lisk

Step into the Imaginary Radio Station, a space of storytelling and music. Ride the waves of memory, embrace halos of sparkling static and be part of a broadcast like no other. This shape-shifting radio station is composed by Stephen Adams for and in collaboration with the music box project, with dramaturgy from Nikki Heywood. Weaving together threads of sound, movement and personal reflection, join us for a sonic meditation on radio and connection. This performance is supported by funding from CreateNSW, with development supported by the Rex Cramphorn Performance Research Studio and Bundanon.

jim denley and the eternally orchestrating sonoverse

improvisor and composer Jim Denley will perform a site-responsive set at the fire pit overlooking the hanging swamp: a border between bushy suburbia and the vast Valley below and beyond. It's a liminal place where human and non-human sounds mix. Jim has been musicking outdoors for decades, finding poetic balances between all the sounds of an acoustic ecology. The aim is to work Towards Ecological ‘Musicking’: a reference to the other Critters, elements, and energies that share in co-creation. it's guaranteed something will happen!

trevor brown, Chromo Suono Solo

performing on Baritone Sax, Alto Flute, Bass Clarinet and electronics from the balcony, trevor brown will draw together two projects: DRONESCAPE, featured at Ars Electronica, Linz and Chromo Suono, commissioned for DARK MOFO. DRONESCAPE works in extremely slow-moving microtonal layers affecting the parasympathetic nervous system. Chromo Suono will synaesthetically interpret the colours of sunset using found sound treatments and live responses to the extraordinary location at 100clickswest.

monika brooks

Monica Brooks is an improviser/composer based in the Blue Mountains. Her projects rely on interests relating to belonging/not belonging, conservation, escape, and resonant spaces. Using piano as a solo project, Brooks uses the resonant body of the instrument, in concert with the resonant body of a space. As a composer/performer/collaborator, Brooks has been involved with projects such as Great Waitress (Magda Mayas/Laura Altman), West Head Project (Jim Denley/Dale Gorfinkel), Women's Auxiliary Choir (Sonia Zadro/Loni Cooper/ Annabel Howie/ Ces Hotbake), Electronic Resonance Korps, and Broads To Men Choir. Splinter Orchestra is a significant influence on Brooks' approach to music.

evening concert: 16 may 2026 7.30-10.30pm - $75

Spel: a play, a game; to exercise oneself in diversion, an amusement or recreation.

Vocalist Louisa Rankin and clarinettist Jason Noble come together as SPEL, a duo exploring the curious and abstract corners of fragile, playful, improvisatory music making. Following the release of their debut self-titled album, described as “a supremely human listening experience” (Jazz Valley), SPEL invite you to join them as their subtle, strange and soulful sounds unfold live in concert.
